This is a very large & long course similar to Elm Fork's wood course laid out in scrubby oak trees. The cart paths are the widest I have ever seen and very well maintained. The machines worked well with a good mix of target setting types. A few tower shots and some shots over ponds. One of the very few that is a pay first then shoot facility. Trailer parking is dicey & don't park by the rifle range it's loud.

A very large scale commercial operation that
includes rifle, pistol and all Sporting Clays disciplines. Located in Houston its very busy place on weekends & the shear
volume of shooters they have can prevent you from having a casual round of clays. NSCA events here are OK with an exceptional amount of target setting resources but the course terrain is dull and flat & subject to high winds & standing water. Numerous coporate & fundraisers events. Tons of towers. The property is so big that a clays car is needed for NSCA events and signage telling you where to go is unhelpful. I have always been very critical of this course but I am willing to allow for updates as new mgmt takes over. NSCA event staff are polite but lack the warm feel that smaller "Mom & Pop" clubs offer. Daily staff are care free. Large clubhouse open for NSCA events. Can host US Open

One of the very first sporting clays courses in the country this club had it's hey-day back in the 90's. It's out of place with todays modern clubs that offer two 15 station course & clays car paths etc. A little Mom&Pop club like this is a refreshing divergence for those who don't want all the whisltles & bells or a full day of monster clays Just a short drive onorth of San Antonio. Its a 5 station walkable course in dense mesquite with a 5-stand. Nothing fancy just sporting at it's most basic.

Poor course management & inability to deal with known flooding issues. The two courses are long way from clubhouse. No signs off the I-35 frontage indicating club entrance. Clubhouse is setup for the "old school" skeet & trap members. Country club elitist attitude that I didn't care for. They have a large covered pavilion perfect for BBQ lunch on the course but when I was there for a 200+ NSCA event - I had to buy a sandwhich at the clubhouse which was covered in ants. I would rather shoot at ASC at least it's closer to where I live. Rating Score = 4/10 (2008) |

Great targets presented over lots of water ponds, dense woods & open fields. Beautiful terrain and course features but a very long course -difficult to walk. Some border on safety issues as you tend to be shooting towards other stations often. I highly recommend shooting here. The single 12 station course takes up the entire property so a major NSCA event like TX state or US Open would be very difficult. http://www.pecanmeadow.com/index2.htm

Established in 2007, these friendly folks have a great casual atmosphere that is refreshing in what can be an overly commercial sport/game. Flat terrain with scrub brush and short trees the range offers up a no frills, laid back atmosphere. No water ponds or tall towers but the 10 station course does offer a few specialty targets & a 5-stand. NSCA events hopefull in 2009. Some minor safety concerns will need addressing before NSCA shoots begin. Clays Car handy, as course is long L shape & you double back after #10. Located near an Interstate and far enough south out of DFW but not to far.

This large guest ranch located at the NE edge of the TX Hill Country has an exceptionaly nice sporting course. They have a 5 station pre-lim & 10 station main. The main has water ponds, pre-lim has a deep ravine, targets off of high limestone cliffs (instead of towers), good mix of specialty targets. The covered limestone shooting stations are very nice, however you can dent your O/U on the rock if your not careful. Very friendly staff, good signage to course once on property, well maintained grounds, walkable main but clays cars are always a good idea in the hill country terrain. Good parking, covered gathering areas. Reservations req for public so call ahead. NSCA shoots are top notch with chef prepared meals. http://www.roughcreek.com
